The drum clinic which was held across the road from Musicians Friend in Kempton Park, attracted a huge audience. The likes of S.A.Drummers Georg Voros and Andries Visser came from as far as Roodepoort to show their support at the clinic.
Idan got straight to business. After briefly introducing himself, he spoke about how just having great technique can make you a dull player. He spoke about emotion as drummer and how it can make all the difference. His drumming education started at the age of 6 and was of a classical nature.

About Idan Abolnik:

Idan has been introduced to drums at the age of 6 years old and has been playing on a professional level for 9 years. He has played in many countries incl. Germany, France and Belgium. He has been part of the famous rock group Sinkopa and plays extensively in the styles of Jazz, Fusion and Rock. He was awarded 1st Runner-up position in Israel's annual drumming competition and 3rd Runner-up in Europe with the Academy band.

He played for almost a solid hour showing off various styles of playing. Covering fusion, rock etc. he even showed of some very intense speed beats that would make any metal drummer proud.
After playing, Idan Abolnik took the time to demonstrate some techniques and answer some audience questions. Once again he brought up the ever popular hand and finger technique used for playing. He spoke in-depth about tuning.
The message he brought across at the end, is that no matter what happens, keep playing and keep practicing. He took seven years off playing to go to the army which is compulsory in Israel. He said the moment he started again it was like riding a bicycle.
