If you make an investment in a good set of cymbals, you expect them to last a long time. The most important part about cymbals lasting is how you take care of them. Here is some general advice on taking care of your cymbals.

When you buy cymbals, make sure you have a cymbal bag, or make sure you budget to buy one. This could be the best money you spend.

If you play gigs frequently, ensure that your cymbals are packed away immediately after use. It's a case of take responsibility for your own equipment, because no one else will, unless your paying them to.

Separate your cymbals with anything soft, this prevents them from scratching each other. Most cymbal bags have soft dividers built in to prevent the cymbals from scratching each other.

If you have to, lay your cymbals flat on something soft, laying your cymbals on a rough surface can cause damage. Standing your cymbals on their edge is not advised.

Avoid extreme temperatures.

If you want to clean your cymbals, spend a few rand and do it properly. A bottle of cymbal cleaner lasts a long time and is worth every cent. Ideally you should use the cymbal cleaner recommended for your brand of cymbals.

NEVER use any household cleaners to clean your cymbals, the simple fact is it's not what they're for. Using any cleaner that is not recommended can result in:
- Faded logo's on the cymbals.
- Many new cymbals have a protective coating and using a cleaner other than what is   specified by the maker can result in the coating being removed.
- Most importantly, the sound can be effected by using the wrong cleaner.

When cleaning, use a soft cloth and run with the direction of the grooves.

DO NOT use anything rough to clean the cymbals, like scourers and dish sponges.

With proper care, your cymbals should last you a very long time.
