LM3. DRUM LESSONS (JHB):

Georg Voros: Blairgowrie

DESCRIPTION:

Georg presently teaches in Blairgowrie, Randburg at his private drum studio. Mature beginners are welcome after an initial consultation. Georg’s approach to teaching is influenced by his involvement with top drummers and teachers internationally such as Dom Famularo, Jim Chapin and Francis Seriau (Drumtech London). He draws on over 30 years of playing experience to bring you the student, top level private drum instruction.
Georg’s approach to teaching is TOTAL - very much in the UK’s Bob Armstrong and USA’s Freddy Gruber approach of focusing on the whole picture from set-up to technique, from groove to time playing, single to double bass pedal, physical to mental approaches…
Hand technique is based on the Free stroke (eminating from Joe Morello) along with the Moeller method (Jim Chapin) and also incorporating finger technique – matched grip is used and encouraged. Following Dom Famularo’s influence on Georg: many of Georg’s students are now switching to an ‘open handed’ approach to playing which he has since adapted to his playing. This method greatly increases facility around the drum kit and essentially opens up all areas of playing. Bass drum technique is derived from the heel up approach with heel down used in conjunction with this method. The primary influence in the heel up method is a technique entitled the ‘hop’ as taught at Drumtech in the UK. Above all else, a ‘natural’ approach to playing is the prime focus, with control and feel leading to speed and dexterity on the kit.

The studio uses Premier drums and Sabian cymbals. Facilities include working to click and audio tracks, video and audio recording, double drum kit workouts, video library and extensive teaching material in all styles.
To find out more or to book your first lesson with Georg call 084 304 8962 or send and email to info@georgvoros.com. Check out Georg’s website for more information at www.georgvoros.com

Georg offers drum coaching in Randburg for all levels inlcuding masterclasses. To find out more go to www.georgvoros.com.

Urban Beat Drumming & Bass Guitar Lessons

DESCRIPTION:

Ian Black has been playing and teaching drums for the past 11 years.
In 2001, he started 'Urban Beat Drumming, Bass and Guitar Tuition', which is aimed at growing and developing young drummers, and making tuition affordable and available to everyone.
Based in Cape Town, he has gained vast experience playing in most scenarios, including all types of churches, camps, seminars, youth ralleys, functions, productions, recordings and special events - even to date, having worked with the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra.
Now, being fluent in various other popular drumming styles like rock, funk, jazz, and latin; and having being involved in various independent projects in and out of studio, he brings to his lessons practical, hands-on drum tuition, with material that has been tried and tested; and concepts that work in practice, where it counts.
